The Past Three Games
On Saturday, December 12th, the Novice LL4 team was up bright and early for an 8am game against Ayr Novice LL3.  This game provided some very unique learning opportunities.  Grant Smith gallantly watched over the net for the first 2 periods despite not feeling well.  Despite many great saves by Grant, and excellent stick handling and defense by the team, LL3 was able to squeeze in one goal in the first period and two more in the second.

Unfortunately Grant was not able to make it through the game and so at the end of the second period, the game was paused shortly so that Derrick Groot could quickly get suited up for goal.  The refs were anxious to move the game along so the third period started with 6 boys on the ice, until our goalie arrived.  Will McCloud took the position of goal despite not being equipped for it and even made a fantastic save!  Derrick Groot quickly came to fill in the goalie position and only let one goal in during the remainder of the game. The final score was 4-0 for LL 3.  Congrats to LL3 on your win!  It’s always a great game when we can play with and against friends and classmates!

Derrick Groot came back to protect the net again this Saturday, 19th for an away game against the Paris Wolf Pack.  LL4 welcomed Luca Grbar to their team to help out with this game. Fisher Woznica opened up the scoring with goal just a few minutes in.  He was assisted by Brayden Hall and Andrew Sayles.  Paris evened the score with a goal in the second period, then pulled ahead with another goal in the third period. However LL4 very quickly tied the game with another goal by Fisher Woznica, who received a perfect pass from Bryce McEwan directly off of a face-off.  Bryce, you make teamwork look so effortless!   The final score was a 2-2 tie.

On Sunday December 20th, Novice LL4 once again took to the ice to play against their friends on Novice LL2.  Grant Smith was in net for this game, and the team was also happy to welcome both Cole Dietrich and Brooklyn Janzen to their ranks for this game.  And, wow, what a workout for the team!  Grant made some amazing saves!  In one instance, Grant was stretched out to make a save on one side when the opposing team tried to get the puck in the other side of the net….with an amazing stretch and a flick from his stick Grant pushed the puck away, not allowing them the chance.  By the third period, Novice LL2 was in the lead 5-0, with another goal following 3.5 minutes on the clock later.  Then, a dreaded penalty left LL4 with only 4 players on the ice.   However, our team rallied – they decided they weren’t going down without a fight!  With just 4 players on, LL4 navigated the puck into the opposing end.  Lane Sauder seized his opportunity with a perfectly aimed shot in the ‘top shelf’, finally putting LL4 on the board with just 2.36 minutes left in the third!  The final score was 6-1 for Novice LL2.  A great game for all.  Congrats on your win, LL2!
