On February 6th, Novice LL4 travelled to St. Jacobs for a game against the Woolwich Wildcats.  LL4 started the scoring midway through the first period with a well-placed shot on the net by Fisher Woznica.  Woolwich followed with a goal 2 minutes later.  In the second period, Woolwich scored first, pulling ahead briefly.  But with just 25 seconds left in the 2nd period, Fisher scored once again, assisted by William McLeod.  Grant Smith showed off his amazing goalie skills once again this game.  Defense Paul Fahner watched the blue line like a pro and made some amazing shots to keep the puck in the opposing end.  Bryce McEwan kept the opposing team on their toes, constantly going for the puck and not giving Woolwich time to think!   The final score for this game was 2-2.

February 7th, LL4 played against another local team: Novice LL2.  Less than a minute in Fisher seized his opportunity to grab the puck, and quickly scored the first goal of the game.  Lane Sauder was the next to score a goal.  Taking a great pass from Braydon Hall, he wound up and hit a slap shot in, top shelf.  Second period, both teams are playing hard.  Brooklyn Janzen was welcomed to our team for this game and she fit right in taking some great passes in her left wing position.  The opposing team got the first goal in the second period.  Following this goal, LL2 got a breakaway.  Defense man Derrick Groot moves like lightening in his skates and he will do anything possible to keep the puck away from our goalie. However, this breakaway got by him and went straight towards goalie Grant Smith.  In an all-star move Grant stopped the puck, bringing a cheer from his team and LL4’s parents and fans!  Fisher Woznica scored the final goal of the game assisted by Derrick Groot.  The final period was a hard fought battle with the puck moving quickly between ends.  Wing men Andrew Sayles, Liam Fahner and Ethan Tanner got some beautiful shots and passes in.  Maxx Vanoostveen was always on the ready.  But the opposing team kept a strong line of defense during the third period and LL4 could not get another goal in.  Our defense was kept busy too!  There were some skirmishes in front of our net, but not another goal was made, thanks to some amazing and persistent defense skills by Boston Brown, Paul Fahner and Derrick Groot!

On Thursday, February 12th, LL4 travelled to Tavistock.  We welcomed Luca Grbac to our team for this game.  Fisher likes to surprise the opposing team with some quick moves at the start of the game.  He was able to pull this off again just a minute into the game, and with the help of Bryce McEwan, he scored the first goal.  For the rest of that period and the entire second period, no goals were scored.  Unfortunately the Tavistock Titans came around and were able to score 3 goals in the third period, ending the game at 3-1 for Tavistock.  This game provided an excellent learning opportunity for the LL4 team.  And we all made it home safe, despite the stormy weather!

Novice LL4 is looking forward to a very busy Family Day tournament on February 15th.   I’ll provide a full update on the tournament next week!
