February 15-21
A Busy Week!

Novice LL4 had the privilege of playing in the Dodge Caravan Tournament in Brantford on Family Day, February 25th.  By the end of the day they completed 3 games and a skills competition.  Grant Smith gave up his usual goalie position to play forward for this tournament.  For the first game, Will McLeod was in net.  The first 2 goals of the game were scored by Fisher Woznica, he was assisted in getting the second goal by Braydon Hall and Grant Smith.   The second period was busy!    Our boys picked up momentum which resulted in 4 more goals by the end of the period. Six minutes in, Lane Sauder grabbed a pass from Braydon Hall and shot straight into the net.  Will proved himself in goal by making a fantastic save when the opposing team got a breakaway.  Maxx Vanoosteveen saw his opportunity to score and took a shot, but it was saved by the goal. In a great show of teamwork, Derick Groot got a goal, assisted by Liam Fahner and Braydon Hall.  Fisher Woznica also got 2 goals this period.  The opposing team was only able to get one goal past Will. The game ended 6-1 for Ayr Flames.

For the second game, Andrew Sayles took the position of goalie.   The final score of the game was 3-2 with goals by Lane Sauder (assisted by Braydon Hall and Liam Fahner) and Fisher Woznica (assisted by Will McLeod).  Shots on the opposing net were made by Bryce McEwan and Maxx Vanoosteveen, but the opposing goalie was a worthy opponent and it was tough to get past his glove.  Paul Fahner, Boston Brown and Derick Groot put up an amazing defense and took away a lot of scoring opportunities for the opposing team.

For the third and final game, there was a last minute change of plans and Braydon Hall graciously agreed to take the position of goalie for this game.  The coaches planned to switch up positions of the players and give everyone a chance to play in a position that they do not normally.  Braydon did an amazing job in goal this game and made a number of amazing saves despite the opposing team’s very strong offense.  We did not win this game but everyone came away from this game with more experience in different positions.

On Saturday, February 20th, Novice LL4 hosted Tavistock Titans.  The first goal of this game was made by Andrew Sayles who took a pass from Brayden Hall and back-handed the puck straight past the goalie.  Liam Fahner also assisted for this goal.  Fisher Woznica made the next goal, and we went into the second period with a 2-0 lead.  In the second period, the opposing team got a breakaway.  Grant made a fantastic save but couldn’t grab the puck on time, and a goal was made off of the rebound.  Fisher made another goal, followed by 2 more goals by the opposing team. During the third period both Fisher and the opposing team scored one more goal, making the final score 4-4.  Ethan Tanner was on fire this game!  He made some amazing plays in the opposing end, always keeping Tavistock on their toes and helping his team mates out with a well-placed pass.

Novice LL4 returned to NDCC for a game against their friends on Novice LL1.  This was a great game against strong opponents.  LL4 played very well.  Braydon Hall got a goal in 15 seconds in to the second period assisted by Fisher Woznica, and LL4 held up a great defense for the remainder of the game.  LL1 was able to get one goal by Grant in the third period, ending the game at a 1-1 tie.  Both Derick Groot and Bryce McEwan were able to get a breakaway but the opposing goalie was able to save both shots on goal.  Great effort was made by both teams!
