The Ayr Flames Novice Rep team took to the ice this past
weekend for their second exhibition game against Plattsville and came away with
an 8-1 win.
Nathan Sherk was solid in net throughout the game, stopping shot after shot with just one getting through in the second period. Kaelen McDougald opened up scoring for Ayr in the first period with back-to-back goals assisted by Mark Zeyen, Liam Foreman and Carter Wright. Still in the first, James Sayles took a hard shot on net that resulted in his first goal of the season, assisted by Carter Wright and William Graff. Brielle Dugal was digging hard, breaking up plays and falling back when required. Defence man Jesse Janzen had an awesome breakaway, resulting in the 4th goal of the first period- unassisted. The team was on the puck this weekend with William Graff prevailing with a great goal, assisted by Carter Wright. Austin Brodhaecker capped the first period with the team's sixth goal, assisted by Christopher Cotter. Simon DeSousa put on a demonstration with solid forechecking in the second period. Jack Whibbs was once again everywhere defensively, breaking up plays and getting the puck out of the defensive zone. Scott Hall was on the puck, taking hard shots at every opportunity. The third period back to back goals by Mark Zeyen sealed the deal, assisted by Kaelen McDougald, Carter Wright and Christopher Cotter. We are proud to say these Ayr players consistently played a disciplined game in the face of a team down by many goals. The team starts their regular season this Tuesday with a game against Ingersoll.
