The Novice Rep Ayr Flames are off to a fiery start to the 2013-2014 season with two games this past weekend against Tavistock. The boys and girls played a close game in Tavistock on Saturday, coming away with a 5-4 win.
Our goalie, Nathan Sherk, was determined to win the first game of the season. Jack Whibbs started the scoring in the second period, assisted by Carter Wright. Mark Zeyen followed quickly behind with a nice shot that saw the back of the Tavistock net, assisted by Jesse Janzen. Scott Hall was everywhere, forechecking and keeping the puck in the zone. A push at the net saw Jack Whibbs score his second goal, assisted by Austin Brodhaecker and Liam Foreman. Half way through the third Jesse Janzen scores to bring the team into the lead, assisted by Austin Brodhaecker and Liam Foreman. The last goal from Tavistock tied the game going into the final minutes of play. With a Novice Rep Flames push, a determined group of kids who wanted their first win, saw Carter Wright take the last shot of the game to score the 5th goal, assisted by Liam Foreman and Kaelan McDougald with 1.8 seconds left in the third period.
The first home game of the season was against Tavistock on Sunday. The boys and girls were fresh off their win and were biting at the bit for another one. Nathan Sherk was in net once again, with the desire to stop those pucks at all costs. The Flames opened up the scoring with William Graff seeing his first goal of the season, assisted by Jack Whibbs. Christopher Cotter was a defensive genius, clearing the zone and pushing the puck up the ice. A second goal in the first period by Carter Wright, assisted by Jack Whibbs. The team's star female, Brielle Dugal, had a great shot that saw the back of the Tavistock net, assisted by Liam Foreman and Austin Brodhaecker. Mark Zeyen finished off the first period with another Flames goal, assisted by Carter Wright and Simon DeSousa. The last two goals for the Ayr Flames were made by Jesse Janzen, with the second goal assisted by James Sayles. A win for the team, 6-2. The team has come together and plays well. We look forward to seeing how the boys and girls do next week against Plattsville!
