Ayr Atom AE Flames Vs. Caledonia January 5, 2016
On January 5, 2016, The Ayr Atom AE Flames hosted the Caledonia Thunder for the third game of their OMHA series.

Just a short recap: Ayr lost their first two games of the series and could not afford to lose or they would be eliminated from the play downs.  Nate Sherk would start in net for this game.  In the First period, Ayr came out strong and was pressuring the opposition to turn the puck over.  Returning to lines used in early November, the team was off to a great start.  Ayr got a few shots early on and was moving the puck quickly.  The score was 0-0 after the first.  In the second period, Ayr continued to keep a steady pace.  The Flames also successfully killed of a few penalties with the help of Whitfield Martin and Carter Cressman on defense.  Matthew Wood had a breakaway from a pass from Noah Covemaeker, and took a shot.  The puck hit the post, and then slid through the crease, nearly hitting the skate of the goalie and entering the net. The score was 0-0 after the second.  In the two-minute break between periods, the Ayr bench was nervous.  But nevertheless, they would try their hardest in the third.  In the third period, Ayr tried to do their best to score a goal and maybe win the game.  Aidan Graham had some good shots from the point, and Kiana Baker was making some good passing plays.  Curtis Stone, Josh Ritchie and Ethan Dunnett were on a line that was producing great scoring opportunities.  At the other end, Nate Sherk was making some clutch saves in goal.  Neither team seemed to find the back of the net.  Time expired, and some thought the result was a tie, but others knew what was ahead: Overtime.  In the overtime period, Ayr was getting real hungry for a goal and they were using the last of their energy to put on their maximum performance in the final 10 minutes of the series… or would they?  Well, Gillan Generoux, along with the Simon DeSousa-Christopher Cotter-Michael Aoun line, were coming very close to a goal.  Time was running out, and it was really crunch time.  Both teams had some lucky bounces in front of the net to keep the puck out, along with the goalies sweeping the pucks out.  With 30 seconds left, Caledonia called a time-out to set a plan up.  The Flames knew that these dying seconds needed to be the hardest working of the game, and the shift was great enough to keep Caledonia off the board.  Time ran out.  The game resulted in a well-fought 0-0 tie.  A tie kept the series alive for at least one game longer.  A great game by all players!
