Midget Rep Wins Wingham Regional Silver Stick
The Ayr Flames won the Midget B final of the Wingham Regional Silver Qualifying Tournament today by a score of 4-0 over the Lambeth Lancers. According to the Wingham Silver Stick organizing committee, this is the first time that a Midget team from Ayr has won the tournament, thus qualifying for the International Silver Stick Midget B Finals Tournament to be played in Forest, Ontario on January 10th, 2014.
Ayr was among 12 teams participating in the Wingham Midget B Regional, all vying for a spot in the prestigious International Silver Stick Finals, with an opportunity to play other regional qualifiers from around North America.
Ayr won the B1 Pool round robin with 3 straight victories earlier in the week, despite a number of regular players being injured or away: 5-2 over the South Huron Sabres, 9-0 over the Walkerton Capitals, and 3-0 over the Listowel Cyclones. Winning the B1 Pool, Ayr qualified for the semi-finals earlier today against the wildcard qualifiers from Dunnville. After falling behind 2-1 after 2 periods, the Flames poured it on to win 4-2 over the Mudcats and qualified for the final later in the day.
Coach Lund attributed the tournament win to a total team effort at both ends of the ice, and acknowledged the contributions of a number of Affiliated Players that filled in for missing regulars this week.
