ATOM AE-St. Mary's Tournament Champs
This past weekend, your ATOM AE Flames had the privilege of participating in the St. Mary’s Rock Tournament.
It was a fun, high energy, nail-biting experience for players, coaches, and family members. Friday morning the boys were up bright and early to head to St. Mary's for our 8am game vs a strong Ilderton team. The entire team came out hard and landed on top with a final score of 3-1.
We came back to town to get some rest before heading back to St. Mary's to play a feisty team from Huntsville. Our boys were on the receiving end of many penalties. They stayed calm, cool and collected. Instead of fighting back they continued to put puck to net resulting in a 4-0 Flame win.
Saturday afternoon we had a date with the host team. St. Mary’s was a worthy opponent and the game ended with 1-1 on the board. This put us and St. Mary's neck to neck for first place. In the end, results showed they had 1 goal better for the differential and we were placed 2nd in our division heading into Sundays semi-final game against Mitchell. Mitchell put us behind the 8-ball for the first time in this tournament, we found ourselves down 2-0. The boys fought back which resulted with an exciting lead of 3-2 late in the third. Mitchell was not going down without a fight and scored with 11 seconds left in the game, sending us into overtime. The boys dominated the 5 minute three on three overtime to no avail. We were headed to a shootout. It took 5 shooters and some great goaltending before we ended the game in a 4-3 shootout victory, off to the finals.
In the finals we played the hosts from St. Mary's again. Our boys were not letting them have it this time. It was a close call but the Flames persevered. With a tie on the board and not much time left on the clock, we were victorious with a final breakaway and amazing goal.
Congratulations to the players and staff on the tournament win. This article has been viewed 984 times.
