Game Time

The Novice L.L.4 team ventured to Tavistock through an early winter storm last Wednesday for an evening contest.   The Ayr boys came out flying in the first period looking to secure their first road victory of the season.  With strong determination and offensive pressure and a ricochet of bounces, Curtis Stone was able to bounce the puck into the Tavistock with a shot from the slot two minutes into the game.  Ayr seemed to let a full school day and long snowy drive to the rink take the best of them for the remainder of the first period and most of the second period allowing Tavistock to take the lead with three unanswered goals.  With four minutes left in the second period, Teegan Bergman buried a goal to bring the score within one (Jack Coughlin and Curtis Stone collecting assists), and with just over one minute left, Hudson Maycock was able to take a pass from Curtis Stone and break free from the defensive zone scoring a beautiful breakaway goal to tie the game 3-3 to enter the third period.Ayr let Tavistock get the better of the third period allowing for three quick goals. With Ayr putting on the pressure to tie the game again, they were unsuccessful with all the offensive zone control and shots sent to Tavitock’s net.  With 30 seconds left in the game, Curtis Stone was able to beat the Tavistock goaltender for his fourth point of the night (Teegan Bergman and Jordan Lacson collecting assists) bringing the game to a 6-4 final for the opposition. The weekend had the team face off on both days.  Saturday morning’s affair was against the Embro LL 2 team.  With the kids facing a very skilled visiting team they did their best to fend off the offensive pressure.  Unfortunately the final was an 8-1 loss, with Curtis stone collecting Ayr’s only goal of the contest (Jack Devos and Jordan Lacson collecting assists).  Sunday afternoon, following a morning pregame skate, the team travelled to New Hamburg for a friendly exhibition game.    Ayr came out flying with fast skating and lots of offensive pressure, but was unable to slip much past the skilled New Hamburg goaltender.  After falling behind 2-0, Jack Devos was able to slip one past the goal line collecting a rebound in the goal crease (Havelin Duiker and Isaac Melo collecting assists) making it 2-1 with just under 2 minutes left.  New Hamburg was able to put another goal past Ayr in the last minute making it 3-1.Ayr continued the pressure and placing many shots towards the net through the second period and had solid defensive zone coverage and goaltending from Jack Illerbrun to keep Ayr in the game.  With 55 seconds left, Teegan Bergman broke out on a breakaway beating the goalie (Jordan Lacson and Hudson Maycock collecting assists) to send the game into the third period only down by one goal 3-2.  The team was unable to stop a quick moment of pressure from New Hamburg, allowing for three quick goals.  The Ayr boy’s regained their focus and continued shooting  the puck, but were unsuccessful until Jordan Lacson was able to slip the puck in with one second remaining (Curtis Stone and Jack Devos collecting assists) making a 6-4 final score.  Ayr’s next game is this Saturday morning in Plattsville.  Go get them boys!
