The Bantam Reps continued their strong play in Southern Counties play downs last week.

On Wednesday evening we travelled to Tillsonburg for the second game of a home and home series. The first period saw Matthew MacDonald intercepting a cross ice pass in the neutral zone and throwing the puck at the net, where Sam McFarlane jumped on the rebound but his shot failed to hit the mark successfully. Matthew Tomlinson used his hard shot from the point effectively but there were no rebounds for Flames to pounce upon. The period ended in a 0 – 0 draw. Dylan Dugal got things going in the second when he blocked a clearing attempt in the neutral zone and went in on a 2 on 1. Noah Davis provided an excellent option as Dylan chose to blast the puck and fool the tender, to put us up by one. Shortly afterward, on a power play, Carter Purdon stepped in from his blue position to launch a powerful wrister that bulged the twine. The frame ended with the Flames up 2 – 0. As the third period began, Jordan Morschauser banked a beauty pass off the half wall, past a d-man, that Andrew Legare chased down and streaked in alone. With one bar-down shot we found ourselves up by three. With three minutes left and their net empty, Trevor Wing blazed into the neutral zone and jumped on the disc and fired it from long range and it was 4 – 0 Flames! Ben Scott intercepted a pass and banked the puck off the boards to Andrew, who again beat a defender and went bar-down again, past a startled tender. As the frame was winding down, Andrew’s shot was deflected into the corner, where Jake Feicht gobbled it up. One beautiful cross-crease pass later, to Ben, who was staring an empty net and the Flames left their barn with a convincing 6 – 0 victory. Throughout the tilt, Sam Johnson was splendid between the pipes and was full measure for the shutout! On Friday night we entertained an undefeated team from Glanbrook, and the game was a crowd pleaser to say the least! Will Barrie had an awesome rush up ice, dipsy-doodling around defenders, only to see his blast rebound into the corner. Isaac Seltzer made some jaw dropping saves to permit the frame to end 0 – 0. Eric Stranz was merciless throughout the game with the Rangers as they were forced to keep their heads up or meet his wrath. In the second, they scored to give them the lead and it proved to be all that they needed. Our cheering section, led by Ryan Clinton were, perhaps, not loud enough? We played stride for stride with them but we could not solve their tender. Isaac continued his strong play but we just had no puck luck. Until next time, may the Flames be with you! By Doug Legare
