BANTAM REP NEWS
The Bantam Rep team began the first round of the OMHA play downs last week. Our opponents were the Warriors from Simcoe.

The series began Wednesday night in their barn. In the first frame both teams felt each other out as scoring attempts were limited. Ben Scott retrieved the puck behind their net and threw it out front with hopes of success and he was not disappointed. Trevor Wing was johnnie on the spot in the slot and wired the disc home to put in front 1 – 0. The second period saw no scoring but some solid defensive plays by the Flames. Will Barrie used his long reach to thwart many offensive chances in our end. In the third, the nail biter continued down to the wire. With their tender pulled and the pressure on to even things up, an errant pass ended up in the neutral zone. Dylan Dugal corralled the puck and fired it into the empty net to seal the deal. Isaac Seltzer was strong behind the pipes and earned the shut out. It was more of the same tight defensive action by both teams as game 2 switched to the friendly confines of the NDCC on Friday night. Early in the first period, Carter Purdon showed a blaze of speed to catch up to a Warrior who was in all alone and poke checked him to nullify the scoring chance. We finally got on the board when Sam McFarlane grabbed the disc, circled behind their net and spotted Andrew Legare alone in front of the net. The net bulged as Andrew one-timed it and we were in the lead! From then on, our tight neutral zone checking game took over. The Warriors were continually frustrated as we shut them down, not allowing many scoring chances. Jake Feicht and Ryan Clinton were particularly effective in this capacity! The fans were treated to a 1 – 0 victory. It was Sam Johnson’s turn earn the shutout as he was full measure for the win! Saturday night saw the third game occur in our barn. As a scramble occurred in front of their net, Eric Stranz came off our bench, skated hard to the blue as the puck was greeting him. One howitzer later and we were in front. In the second frame, Matthew Tomlinson’s hard blast from the point was blocked but the rebound ended up on Matthew MacDonald’s stick. He got both cheeks into a blast that the goal tender is still looking for, to put us up 2 – 0! It was more Flame-work in the third, as Eric’s rebound was cornered by Matthew M.. He, then, spotted Ben in the open. Ben made no mistake to up the score to 3 – 0. With 3 minutes left in the match, and an empty net, Andrew won the face off and threw the puck in the neutral zone. Noah Davis greedily gobbled up the disc and caged it to increase our lead. But we were not done yet! Matthew T. stymied a rush at our blue line and went for the long range bullet and we finished off the game with a 5 – 0 win. Isaac earned his second shutout of the week. Perhaps it was the excellent choice of musical accompaniment in the change room provided by Jordan Morschauser or perhaps it was his cheering from the bleachers, but the Flames now wait to see our next opponent will be as we advanced in straight games victories to the next round of the OMHA play downs. Well played boys! Until next time, may the Flames be with you. By Doug Legare
