The Bantam Rep hockey team played in its Silver Stick Tournament in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach over the holidays and were very successful!

The tournament started off slowly for us as we lost our first game to BCH, 4 – 3. We followed that one up with a lackluster loss to Simcoe, 2 – 0. We were on the verge of elimination when we dug deep to defeat Penetang, 2 – 0, and we ended the round robin section of the tournament with a one win – two loss record. Remarkably, that put in first place in our pool!! In the semi-final we encountered a tough team from Wasaga Beach and put our game together to defeat them 4 – 0 and we were off to the finals! In the finals we met Simcoe again. We knew that we would have to play well to avenge our earlier loss to them. Our goal tender tandem of Isaac Seltzer and Sam Johnson needed to play like Johnny Bower! Our defensemen: Will Barrie, Carter Purdon, Eric Stranz and Matthew Tomlinson would have to continue their strong play in our end and in the offensive zone! Our forwards: Ryan Clinton, Dylan Dugal, Jake Feicht, Andrew Legare, Matthew MacDonald, Sam McFarlane, Ben Scott, and Trevor Wing needed to be offensive and defensive monsters if we were to be victorious! Our players in the stands: Jordan Morschauser and Noah Davis had to lead our cheering section if things were to fall into place! It looked grim as we were down 1 – 0 after two periods of play, but we had been buzzing all around their net with nothing to show for it. After resurfacing of the ice after the second frame, we came out and continued to keep the play in the Simcoe end. Our continuous pressure wore them down and we were finally rewarded with 3 unanswered goals and we came away with the Silver Stick championship banner! The fans went crazy! Congratulations to the Bantam Rep hockey team who represented our town well! The International Silver Stick Tournament is only weeks away and the team is excited! Until next time, may the Flames be with you. By Doug Legare
