Great January!
The Ayr Flames Novice LL1 had a busy two weeks with 3 hockey games played.  First up, a local show down between LL1 and LL4.  Jackson Wright opened up the scoring in the first period with an unassisted goal.  Egan McDonald followed up with the games second goal in the last seconds of the first period, unassisted.

McDonald kept the momentum going early in the second period with another unassisted goal.  Darko Maldini was robbed in the second period with an early whistle by the ref, who then called off the goal.  Cohen Dalton was solid on wing, skating hard, bringing the puck into the offensive zone and keeping the puck onside.  LL1 lit it up in the 3rd period with a goal by Carter Cressman (assisted by McDonald and Benson Dietrich) and 2 more by Wright (assisted by Dietrich, Sullivan Cofell and Hayden Covemaeker).  The team won 6-0 and J.S. Deacon, once again, saw another shut out.  The team firmly believes the number of Deacon's shutouts now exceeds Jonathan Quick’s numbers by a landslide, and he is just 6 years old.

Next up, the team played Tavistock for the first time this season.  The team, including defense players Grady Brown and Derick Groot, kept the pressure up and kept the puck in the end zone for much of the first period.  McDonald (assisted by Covemaeker and Dietrich) scored with 4 minutes remaining in the first period.  Two minutes later, McDonald scored again displaying his wicked backhand shot (assisted by Cofell).  In the second period, Danik Godard was passing the puck up the ice like a pro.  With 17 seconds remaining on the clock, the third goal was scored by Cofell (assisted by Deacon Samay and McDonald).    The last period was intense, with Tavistock hungry for a goal.  Will “The Enforcer” McLeod was a fierce defender, sprinting back to head off their forwards and steer them to the boards.  Brody MacAulay made a great shot block in the third period saving a goal.  Tavistock scored with 5 minutes remaining, but the Flames responded with an unassisted goal by McDonald in the last minute of the game.  The final score was 4-1.

The team headed to Elmira for their third game. The game started with a defensive, physical battle back and forth.  Cressman, McDonald and Samay all had good scoring opportunities with Samay scoring his first novice goal to tie the game in the first period.  Covemaeker lead the way in the second period with his heads up passing plays and had great scoring opportunities along with Dietrichs’ blast at the net.  The defense of Groot, Cressman, Brown and McLeod fought the physical battle and the awesome glove hand of J.S.Deacon held strong.  Down 2:1 going into the third, Dietrich, Maldini and McDonald all had great scoring chances.   Cressman in the middle of the third had an end to end rush tying the game.  Elmira potted 2 late goals to close the game out with a 4-2 loss. Looking forward to next week’s games.

Thanks to Lesley, Beth and Tyler for writing up these games!
