The Atom AE Flames found themselves in some tough competition playing 2 rep teams in their three preliminary games. After getting thumped 8-0 in the first game by Mt Forest Reps the team hit the ice at full speed in game 2 and came away with a 7-2 win over Grand Valley. Tristan netted four goals and Mathew kept the GV pucks on the blue side of the line. Against Embro Reps the Flames were outshot 20-12 but made the most of their scoring chances and came away with a hard fought 3-2 win.
In the semi-finals they had to once again face Mt Forest and held them scoreless until the closing seconds of the first period when the Rams got on the board. Another quick one to open the second put Ayr in a deep hole but they continued to fight until the end as Ryan scored late in the game to break the shutout.
It was a great early season test for the team and they are starting to find their game.
